Customer complains of a whine/howl from the rear, but only on decel. Checking the pattern with prussian blue (marking compound) contact is close to the inside of the teeth on the ring gear on one side, but the other side its close to the outside..........why?

Is this a 1965/72 Ford LTD/Galaxie station wagon?

The following happened in 1967 at Ralph Williams Ford.

A customer complained about rear end whine, an 1863 was written up (1863-warranty RO), the partsdummy (me) gave out the usual parts, the parts were installed, the car was road tested, the whine was still there.

Back to square one. Another complete set of parts including the R&P was installed, the car was road tested, the whine was still there.

WTF?

After several ppl looked, I discovered that a bird now very dead, had become lodged in the side vents behind the quarter glass that allowed air to flow across the rear tailgate glass.

Once the bird was removed, the whine was gone.

This was written on the RO: R&R dead bird to correct rear end whine!

Off the cuff, kiddo...when one passes out the same scheiss for 35 years, who needs a parts catalog!!

1957/68 9" 3.00-1

C0AZ-4209-E / B7A-4221-A / B7A-4222-A / B7A-4616-A / B7A-4621-A / C2AZ-4625-B / B7AZ-4627-A / B7A-4662-A / B7A-4669-A / C2AZ-4676-B

1969/87 9" 3.00-1

Substitute C9AZ-4221-A & C9AZ-4222-A for B7A-4221-A & B7A-4222-A & D8UZ-4676-A for C2AZ-4676-B.

I know how to set the lash (Prussian blau, mein herr), and the configuration of the R&P.

No, but that's what was written on the 1863 Warranty RO.

R&R = In this case...remove dead bird to repair rear end whine.

Form # 1863 = So named because Henry was born in 1863.
