Knob removal

Howdy fellas...I know for the headlight and wiper knobs there are retainer clips. However, do you have to get at them from behind the dash? Or can I get at them from the front side? I have no clue where clip is.

Same question for the HVAC knobs. Do those come off or do I have to remove the entire lever?

Thanks for any input.

Ben,

There is not a retainer clip for the headlight knob- just the button on the top of the headlight switch behind the dash. Pull the knob all the way out to turn on the lights, then reach up underneath the dash and press the knob on the top of the switch to release the knob. The wiper knob has a piece of spring steel with a slot that slides over the knob shaft. The wiper knob should have a release slot on the back side of the knob. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the backside of the knob and press rhe screwdriver toward you, and the knob should pop off. The heating control knobs are the same setup- get behind the springsteel with the screwdriver and pull toward you to release the tension on the steel and remove the knob.

The headlight switch comes out in the following way: Reach up under dash and feel for a button on top of switch. Push down on button and pull knob out. If your battery is connected the lights will stay on.

Wiper switch: Knob has a little square cut out and if you push down there and twist flat head screwdriver against dash it should come out.

This is how I did it the other day. If you need a short video or something of wiper knob removal I can make one.

Thanks fellas. So the slot for the wiper knob and heating knobs is on the back side of the knob its self and not behind the dash?

Ok here are a few pics. If you have delay wipers you can turn knob to delay and the cut out should be to side by steering wheel or down in the off position on delay or non-delay wipers. At least that is how it is on my 73.

Hope this helps. Video was too hard to make. Couldn't remove knob while holding camera.

Thanks Sean...I really appreciate it that. I'd rep you, but I gotta spread it around.

And that should be the same process for the heater knobs too, right?

No problem Ben. I don't have any spare headlight switches laying around or I'd take a picture of the button for you. But it is really simple to find when you reach back there. Right up on the top.

Thanks Carl.

Glad you got it figured out Ben. Every time I do it I always feel like something is going to break too.

Thanks Carl.

After looking at it, I felt stupid for not knowing how to get that stuff off. But I didn't know what kind of clasps they are or where the clasps were. So thanks.

LOL. In all fairness before I thought to go get some pics for you I thought of posting pictures of Lorena Bobbit to help with your 'knob' issue.

I had no idea you were that wet behind the ears with these things Ben. smilietease

Also when you pull the headlight knob/shaft out don't pull it out all the way. After you push the button down then pull the shaft out a bit release the button then lightly push the knob/shaft back in and you can turn the headlights off without locking the shaft in place.

Thanks Scott for the kind words Scott, :guns: . I really felt stupid when I went out and looked at it. I knew there were clips...just didn't know where they were.
