and when I was taking off my right rear tire I noticed the axle shaft had play in it and was wondering if this is normal or do I have a issue here.

What do yall think?

Not sure what axle you have, and I don't know much about axles...but my ol' 7.5" has at least that much slop/noise in it...and I'm pretty sure the slop is back at the c-clips.

That's a quarter-million mile axle, though. [confused]

I don't think there's anything to worry about (aside from the brakes). The rotational play is in the gears, and is normal. The in-n-out play doesn't seem to be so bad.
