Injuries while working on your truck

I was just noticing in the mirror of a faint scar that lingers on my arm from a dang exhaust burn I received while trying to work on my truck at the beginning of spring and just got me to thinking about what kind of injuries anyone has gotten working on your truck. So far for me, just exhaust burns and the typical cuts, bruises and smashing of the fingers.

Exhaust burn on my left wrist, and I cut the piss out of my other wrist trying to take the bumper off. Dang bolt wouldn't budge, then POW! And my hand rips down the edge of the front bumper.

I don't have anything too serious...I've got a couple pretty good scars that duct tape fixed up. I've got a few burns from the exhaust as well as from a hot engine block. I've also got a really good scar on my left thumb from where I nicked a fan. And last but not least, I still have a lump behind my right ear from where I didn't have a good grip on Red's hood when pulling it off during the restore, and the inside corner just dropped right on my head.

Broke a few fingers when a Crapsman ratchet broke. A few cuts and gashes,a few burns from hot surfaces.
Had a radiator blow a seam on a car that was over heating BAD and I had burns over both arms, chest, neck and waist the skin was draping off in large sheets.

This is a cool thread. My truck was finished when I bought her, for the most part other than a few upgrades and I'm just now learning how to maintain, troubleshoot and fix her myself (for some of the smaller things anyways), so I don't have any scars yet.

Oh yeah and Randy..........all I can say is....damn.

^^^Ken...after reading some of Randy's history, you'll find out he's actually a super hero. His motto is 'pain don't hurt'. And I know what you're wondering, and the answer is yes, Chuck Norris is actually afraid of him.

I've got too many to list.

Not really an injury, but most notable was when I pushed the button on the dizzy cap. To this day I don't know what made me want to touch it. I knew it was dangerous, but it looked so good. lol.

Forgot burning my hair off the top of my head.
I was cutting a spring hanger off and slag dropped down and caught my hat on fire. I yelled out to a friend to see what was on fire thought the floor mat caught on fire. then I felt the heat. songs all the hair off the top of my head I looked like a monk.

There isn't enough bandwidth allocated to me to post all the injuries.

I often think of certain movies like when Mel Gibson asks Rene Russo to kiss better.
Of course that too would lead to Porn.

Yeah, I became a mechanic over 35 years ago, and my hands haven't healed up yet!

Bloody knuckles, scrapes and burns are about it...there've been times my back and/or knees have hurt for a few days after I did something stupid, too, I guess, but nothing major.

*Did manage an odd one last weekend, though- not sure quite when/how it happened, but when I was washing up after I got done, I saw that I got a blood blister on the back of my hand, right in the middle. [confused]

I have had steam burns from stupidly removing a rad cap on an overheating van. I was in the U of Iowa burn unit for 21 days when a gas tank I had just removed and was draining caught a spark and lit. It blew the burning gasoline out on my legs, and the fireball flash burned my arms. The arms were healed by the time I got out of the hospital, the legs took 3 months and skin grafts to heal.

I have a nick out of a knuckle, pretty little star shaped scar from a fan when I was timing the motor with no fan shroud, a cut from tech school working on a Chrysler transmission with a sharp housing, and numerous other scars on my hands. Got a shiner once from the ratchet slipping off when I was pulling as hard as I could...

A word of warning for the redneck backyard mechanics (this one is courtesy of my dad) DO NOT take a trans out with the tires sitting on blocks! I was pulling a trans out for my dad, and he had set the front tires on blocks. I expressed my concern with it, but he said it will be fine. As soon as I popped the linkage loose on the trans and it came out of park, it rolled off. I was completely under the car. I noticed it starting to move, so I grabbed the sway bar and pulled out as far as I could, as at the start I was looking right at the oil pan on the motor. I got out far enough the sway bar came down across my chest, at least cracking if not breaking the ribs it hit (don't know which, never got it checked out, but they bothered for years after. My mom is an ER nurse, and she treated me at home)
His payback for that was that he had to lift the car off of me. I was caught by pressure and the torsion bar bolt sticking into my leg a little. No damage there, just couldn't get free on my own.
