I would say no. But I'm not 100 percent on that. With the carb you only need 7 psi. For a EFI they run quite a bit higher. Some of the other guys will know better though. I have an 85 f350 with the 7.5L just replaced both pumps recently, cost wasn't to bad IMO.

I'd have to look them up, but it is possible as the 88 uses a low pressure transfer pump and a secondary high pressure pump.
 
A fuel pessure regulator is still needed when doing a carb conversion on an '88 or '89 truck using the in-tank pump only so I'm going to say no it isn't quite the same as the earlier carbed pump.. about the same pressure but more volume.
 
Our 87 F-250 Ex Cab with 460 4bbl c-6 4x4 has an in tank low pressure in both tanks and a frame mounted booster pump but the "boost" is only 8.5 psi at the carb. I would use the pump that goes with the engine, as when I got new tank pumps the parts guy said there were "at least 5" different pumps for that yr.
