I need help

I have 88 f150 with 5.0 truck runs good at idle engine revs fine go to drive it runs fine for two or miles then loses all power backfires turn off the key for 5 min runs ok again for a mile or two then the same thing any help please

Pull the codes and post them.
It sounds like the TFI is heat soaking and breaking down. Not sure if your engine has a Pip sensor that could be breaking down also causing this.

Does check engine light need to be on for codes

No sir, the computer will store codes whether the check engine light is on or off.

That is awful fast even for the TFI... Does it seem ok until you speed up to higher speeds?Lower speeds seem mostly ok?

After the truck warms up maybe 5 to 10 min it does it all the time it don't matter the speed any time you hit the gas it wants to die its kinda crazy
