I got to thinking..

I've been suffering from a bad case of food poisoning. So i've been spending allot of time worshiping the porcelain god, about 2 hours ago I was laying on the bathroom floor and a thought popped in to my head.

When does a engine become a big block?
Does it have to do with actual size of the block or both and Stroke?
If a 351 is a SB and a 390 is a BB, what happens when you bore and stroke a 351 to a 393? does it technically become a big block?
I know think with Chevy engines any thing under a 400Ci is a small block..
So any was just a random thought I guess..
I'm gonna go lay in the tub.

i was in an engine shop and i saw allot of big blocks. im talking g 500 -600 ci.. pro stock engines.. and they are frkn HUGE.. make my 302 look like a 4 banger ricer engine.. soo i guess like the word says

ITS A BIGGER BLOCK ??

the deck height and stuff

like the windsor is 8.2 or something and the 351 is 9.5 the deck height and i guess over a certain number it becomes a big block

for example i saw a 572 chebby next to a 351 windsor in that show.. and WOW.. that engine was huge..

btw did u know that pontiac GTO's 455 where small blocks??

well actually i saw an article its not a small block or a big block they just used size one block...

( CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG )

Small block and big block are chevy terms. There is no small block Ford or Big block Ford.

There is the Windsor family
335 series
385 series
FE series...

Yeah, but where does the FE series fit. The bolt pattern is different from all of them. :p

BOP (buick, olds and pontiac) were known as intermediate blocks.

The 348 which is in the same family as the 409 is a big block. The 400 sb is of course a small block, the 366, 396, 402, 427, 454, and 502 are the later model big block family. I think it comes down to the size of the block itself, bore and stroke not included.

I think Ford is more "family orientated" as nothing fits each other or is really limited. IE as already mentioned, the FE series 330, 360 and 390, ect. ect. Chrysler is much the same way, way too many different bellhousing patterns and spacing. One reasons I hated gas fords in my youth.

Oh it makes me no difference, but if you consider when your butt is so raw you cannot wipe and therefore just have to "pat it" you may consider changing your standards on eating establishments or how often you clean out your fridge. :)

Nope, it's a SB since the basic casting is shared with the 262, 265, 267, 283, 307, 327, 350 and 400's. Someone may have confused a 348 with a 350.
