huge tire crown super swamper

It will be more for parades, picking out Christmas tree, and and occasional trail ride. It has lived to many years to start beating it now.

I really like your thinking and I really like your truck.

OK Chris..if thats what is recommended...Interco has some explaining to do...No way should they ballon that much imo...the centers will wear out pretty damn quick...along with tread contact surface which you have already noticed...I would like to hear what they have to say about it...The truck is looking Good Chris!!

I just got off the phone with Interco. and the answer is, wait for it, the 38's are just like that. I pressed why and was told something about DOT which did not make much sense considering all the other tires are not crowned.

Anyway, the people at interco super nice and always answer the phone directly. They said it would not be a problem to return the tire and would assist if 4wheel parts is resistant. we will see. I guess i will be buying 17 inch rims or sitting the truck on stands until the sam 55s production run starts next week.

wtf?? thats a shitty answer.... i'd be realy upset with the quality if thats just how it was...

Interco should not allow a tire like that to leave with that type of crown on a recommended rim size..

That's weird and doesn't sound right. I've had 37's and 36's (current) on my rig and it's nothing like what yours looks like and if they're just saying it's that one size only? I don't know......:suspicious:

I've heard that answer for years with 38" Interco tires...TSL's, Boggers, SX's, thornbirds...doesn't matter radial or bias...almost universal across the 38's of Interco, regardless of width. Been that way since the tire shop I worked in during the summers in high school, and I know alot of the weekend warriors around here won't run them because of it. Never have I heard a legitimate answer. But if you'll look on CL for used 38's,you'll also notice the centers will be bald and the outer tread will be somewhere between 7 and 9/32.

And what is a sam55???...Nevermind, I see it's aproduct number.

tires are going back

Ok, here is the last of the pictures i took this morning for any of you who are interested. If you look at the ground contact pictures (easier to see in person) you can see only the very center is touching the surface. I hoped this helped someone from going through the same hassles.

4wheel parts is good about taking them back although I have wasted my $ for the mount and balance. We will see if they refund my money or want to issue a store type credit.

My old sam-55R 38/15.5 wore flat but they are from 2001. 12 years old. maybe they were made different back then? I have to have the sam-55s sent and have the same problem??

Thats a pretty lame answer imo Chris......Makes me very skeptical on a replacement set...

^^^ Bias ply TSL Chris.....Something ive noticed on interco radials..checkout page 252 in the summit catalog (most recent edition) Most of the Interco radials apear to be crowned compared to the TSL along with the TSL Boggers which appear flat in tread width in the catalog...

Buzz,, Do you have any pics of your truck with the 12.5"?

4wheel has sent the 38/15.5 tires and they will be in on monday but i wanted to be thinner. The 15.5 stick out from the fenders.

Here you go Chris....there is more in my gallery of pics also...keep in mind when my wheels are turned at full lock..these tires do clear but not by much..a wider tire even a size up would probably rub the frame of the vehicle imo..along with the bottoms of the fenders in a Motion scenario...These do not..My suspension &body lift was done proffesionaly by Bullhead frame & body in Arizona along with the addition of the tires by its previous owner...In other words matched to fit the lift..

Small Update,

From what i can understand the 38/14.5 tsl sx must be a BIAS tire only, The other models of the sx must be BIAS BELTED.

I honestly did not even consider anyone making a non belted bias tire unless it was for vintage specific cars.

Without the added belts for stability the tire takes on the balloon shape like my wheel barrow tire. It is the oldest design of pneumatic tires.

i think they will go back to interco.

Chris

correct Chris TheTSL SX ia a conventional tire with bias plies...Radials in most cases are steel, glass belted..unfortunatly in the catalog they dont give any construction info on the tires....I have to agree with you by sending them back...Good luck on the next set..

I know this is an old thread and kinda off topic but I can't PM yet, but did you add the skyjacker 6" lift springs up front before or after the SX tires?
