How to milk out MPG's.

^^^Actually what did it, was exactly what I was saying earlier. It dropped your effective ratio...which caused you to turn LESS RPM. For argument sake, let's say you have 4.10's and you wre traveling 70mph. Well with your 235's, you were pushing about 3350rpm. When you threw the 37's on, you dropped your rpm's to right around 2600...which is a much easier cruising range...and drinks much much much less gas...even though you probably added 25lbs per tire.

Sorry, but this makes me laugh. I have to drive roughly 5miles to get to town, thats for anything. I know alot of people who have to drive double that, or more. smilietease

Mapquest lied,it's 11 miles according to the odometer.Mapquest says that my buddy's house two streets away is 20 feet from my house.

On Mondays and Wednesdays,it's 44 miles back and forth total.Any other day,it's 22.The gas mileage I got on Wednesday was unacceptable for the car.But now it's gotten better.

I understand your pain then.. especially for school. If it was a job, some of that gas money is coming back to you.... it's just a wasted expense right now.

and mapquest sucks... I always use google or bing.

I drove my rig 3000 miles cross country on 235/75/15's and got 9 MPG's consistently. When I got to Boston, I had a shop put my 37's Super Swampers on (only a few hundred miles to home so I thought it wouldn't be a big deal) and for the next 250 miles, I got 13 MPG's. I surmised that if there's enough power under your hood, the additional power required to run bigger tires isn't enough to make a difference and I made up the additional MPG's because of the larger diameter tires; more distance with the same RPM's. I think this would be the exception to the rule as bigger tires mean more drag, more energy required, etc.

Did you calculate for the odometer being off with the larger tires?

By swapping to larger tires...it would record that he was actually getting less miles. But he stated he got better mpg's. So even if he didn't recalculate, that means he still got better mpg's...and even better if he recalculates actual mileage.

Yep.I didn't have a problem with it when I worked at Hardee's(comparable distance).I can afford the gas,i'd just like to not spend so much on gas,so I can save the rest for a new Ranger and for school.
