I was wonderin if anybody had any tips on how to milk out MPG's?

I have to drive too many miles to college, and on Mondays and Wednesdays,I have to make the trip twice.Today I went from 3/4 tank,to about halfway between 1/2 and 3/4,which I think is way too much for a little 4 cyl.I'm a little lead footed by birth,so i'm gonna need to work on that, but does anybody have any other tips that are Vehicle related to increase MPG's?

'Draft' semis. Pretend there is an egg under your gas pedal. Beyond that...you got me.

Also known as 5/8? smilietease

Without knowing how many miles you drove or how big the gas tank is, knowing you burned an eighth of a tank doesn't mean much...

At any rate...driving slowly and accelerating gently are the two big ones for improving your mileage, assuming the car is in decent operating condition.

What engine, trans, rear gears and tires do you have? What kind of shape is it all in? I know if you can get a big alternator, a Mark VIII electric fan could help. I have heard E3 plugs are suppose to help.

Ian,When i'm out of school,I try not to think about math too hard.lol.

Specs are 2001 Cavalier,2.2 4cyl,Automatic Tranny,gears are probably high being it's a 4 door 4 banger.It's got 71,000 miles on it.

Mapquest says it's 7 miles, however the driving conditions are slam on your brakes every 2 feet because of idiot drivers locking their brakes up to go to dealerships,so i'm planning out another route to see if that helps any.

Speed...55 or under on the highway. 70 mph chews up a lot lot more gas.

only issue with that is, technically you could get pulled over for doing 55 on a interstate cause your holding up traffic.

plus the 70mph mark of gas usage compared to 60-65 well thats just dependent on the vehicle, my truck gets decent gas mileage (13.5 mpg) at 60 mph. but great (15 mpg) at 70-80.

In the right lane? Dunno how you are getting better economy at a higher speed, kinda defies physics [confused] .
I'm speaking for my own truck...6mpg at 70 mph, 8 at 55-60.
Which, by my math is roughly a 30% increase.

here you can... not sure bout everywhere else...

dont know, and i still get about 14mpgs doin 80-to whenever my truck shuts off (110).

You are telling me that you can get a ticket for being in the right lane doing 55 in a 70 zone? Not disbelieving you, but I'd sure like to see that in writing.

Keep your tires @ the proper PSI, proper tune up regularly, drive like a granny, give yourself enough room to not have to use the brakes; which leads to having to accelerate more, try to leave earlier than you normally do if traffic is an issue... Take all unneeded stuff out of the car as weight and a 2.2 I4 don't get along...

I have a 3.2 V6 in a mid sized sedan and I get around 330-350 miles to the tank which is 16-18 IIRC and that's with some "spirited" driving every now and then...
