How hot is your E4OD?

Cool. Looks like we don't have too many takers on giving me temp readings so I'll just spill it :p

The ride home from Trista's place, mostly freeway driving, about 60-70* ambient temp, gave me a solid reading of about 152* F at max. It got to that temp about halfway through the drive and stayed there all the way home.

Think my cooling mods are working? (B&M cooler, Derale deep pan with cooling tubes, shift kit).

Chris are you still running the trans fluid through the factory radiator trans cooling tank as well?

Yessir. There was a big discussion on the other site about whether or not it was a good idea to reroute the lines and bypass the radiator cooler. After a lot of bickering and moaning-- some good points were made and I was convinced that bypassing it is a BAD idea.

Well at least I feel better about the tranny rebuild now. Haven't hooked up the temp gauge since the rebuild and throwing a new 460 in...maybe my dad will hook up all my gauges for me, and I'll get some readings.

I dont have a guage, its best not knowing. All I know is that if it shifts, and its in gear its fine lol. Ontop of the E4OD being junk from the start, its going to end in the end. At lest my 1 will. Yours will last a life time. Ur ontop of fluid changes, you dont beat it, u dont put it in akward situations. Lol.

I've seen full syn oil like RP lower tranny temps up to 20degrees...
I run RP in my C6 runs like butter :D

Once the warm weather hits I'll hopefully be pulling our boat-- roughly 7k lbs. I think that'll be an awkward situation

Absoulutely! Bypassing the radiator cooler is a BAD idea. Fluid should flow from the trans to the auxillary cooler, then through the radiator tank cooler before returning to the transmission. If the radiator cooler is bypassed then the transmission will not get warm enough in cold ambient conditions. In addition, water is a much better heat transfer media than air, and in extreme heat ambient conditions using an auxillary cooler alone may not be enough to properly cool the trans fluid.

I tried full synthetic in my transmission. Yeah it was Amsoil-- shut up, I was young and naive.

Anyways-- it made some real nasty noises near the torque converter area. I thought my trans was on it's way out until I switched back to dino fluid and the noises went away immediately.

I'll never put synthetic ATF in again.

Bingo. That pretty much summarizes what was said in the thread that I linked to.
