Howdy Y'all.

Day one new guy here. And I do mean DAY ONE. Just pulled my old 74 f100 out of the weeds of the hill country and trailered her to my buddy's shop yesterday after she'd been neglected and out of site for the last 10 years. Lookin forward to gettin her back among the living.

By Day one I mean I've never undertaken a project this size. I've turned a few wrenches, done some minor body work, but never anything like this. To be honest, I don't even know where to begin, so I'm tackling the wiring first and will run a fuel line to the engine to start bringin her back to life while I replace the fuel tank and lines.

Welcome to my uphill walk.

Welcome aboard...projects for scratch can be the most fun and rewarding...but also the most frustrating. Don't hesitate to ask when you get hung up...quite alot of knowledge on 73-79 Fords on this site.

Without seeing the inside of the bed and cab, the body looks pretty solid from here.

How is the frame?

Awesome....looking forward to updates and pics.

It is. The truck lived most of it's life in a garage in South Texas so the topical rust you see in the pic is from the last few years. The frame is solid. The dash has been ripped out and gutted.

Many years ago I paid a mechanic to replace the wiring harness and he stopped the work at the worst possible point and left it that way for years. So there is quite a wiring puzzle to figure out.

If the motor will work with me(I don't see any reason it shouldn't, she ran like a top before) then I will move forward with the 460. If the engine becomes a full overhaul job I'll replace it with a fuel-injected 302, which from what I've read shouldn't be too big of a deal. Maybe someone here can chime in on that.

I'll post some more pics soon.

Welcome!

I've had both - keep the 460 if at all possible. Nothing else makes the ground shake under you like that engine.... except maybe a diesel lol

Oh I hear ya. I'm just as attached to that motor as I am to the truck so it'll take a real deal breaker for me to let it go. Plus if I change the motor I'll have to change my screen name and well, screw that. I may name my next son "Big Block"(after his mother of course).

request sent. Thanks man.

I'm about start stripping rust off. Top to bottom. My goal for now is just to stop the rust and get a coat of primer on the whole truck so I can concentrate on the guts for a while. Any products you guys recommend for the anti-rust spray down?
