My hinge is flexing outward just enough to scratch the inside of the hood. Is it a good idea to try and bend it back in or will I take a chance on messing it up even more?
Not to bid of a deal right now, but defiantly want this corrected for when I paint.
I'd try bending it back into shape a bit if possible. Better yet if you could round up a new set of hinges before you paint it would be even better. Those old hinges give out over time due to the weight of the hood. Good luck.
With the hood closed, does it sit level with the cowl, or is it higher?
If it sits slightly higher at the cowl, the hood flew up at some point, stretching the hood hinges.
This is a common problem that has affected 1961/79 trucks since all were new...you wanna know why?
Because the puny hinges are inadequate to support the hood, and ppl slammed the heavy hood down, sooner or later...usually sooner...the hood latch support sags...then the hood flies up.
Once the hood hinges stretch, they are HIS-TOR-EE.

I'd try bending them back also, but usually when they start to bend like that, it won't be long before they bend again. Ideally, you should get some new hinges.
I'd try to gather up the money to get new hinges while some originals are still available. Later down the line, the originals may all be gone and you'll be stuck looking for good used, which may be an exercise in futility.
