Holley Projection...

I have a buddy that has a Holley Projection kit he's wanting to sell for $350...retails at summit for over a grand.

He tried to use the kit on a high power 454, but the kit simply didn't deliver enough fuel. He bought it new, the kit was probably cycled a dozen or so times, and now he's wanting to get rid of it. For that cheap of a price, I'm seriously considering picking it up for the Bronco. For those of you that have used these, how inclusive is the kit, what else would I need that's not included in the kit? How difficult is the install? He says he has the closed loop kit and 02 sensors as well...I have no clue what a closed loop kit is. I know nothing about these kits or doing the swap. Thoughts or opinions???

I would pick it up, that is cheap! Closed loop o2 sensors send information to the ECU or computer to monitor and adjust A/F tables for the best performance at all times. An open loop system means that your engine runs off of a set A/F table at all times, based only on throttle position.

Thanks Derek, that's good info. Any info on the actual install?

Looks similar to the Powerjection Ben, so although I have not personally installed that yet I have read the snot out of the manual in anticipation of the upcoming install :D. For the most part it looks like a pretty basic install, you might have to run a return fuel line and you will have to install an electric fuel pump.

After doing some digging and research and talking with some guys that actually have this system, it's not looking like something I want. Most guys that have hands on experience with this particular system are saying it's extremely finicky to tune...and can be a daily ordeal. It's also said this system is extremely vacuum dependent and any sort of cam will give it fits. I was also told the system doesn't do well 'learning' on offroad vehicles due to constant shifting and throttle/rpm changes. The guys that do get the system to work, seem to be street cruisers and relatively stock engines with minimal bolt ons. From what I'm gathering, the Holley Commander, Howell and MassFlo systems are where it's at...with the Holley and Howell being less than half of the MassFlo.

So, I've been advised that regardless of how cheap it is, don't go near it...they used ones sell cheap for a reason.
