Yes Mike...but read the whole thread...DC is having issues sourcing the proper aluminum.

Yeha but its a truck unless its gonna be sittin in a glass case or in air tight garage itll most likely get dinged and dented and corroded and that just dont make any sense.

The people who would pay this may use the truck . But not to haul stuff. I know of a 79 F150 sc 4x4 that was appraised at $25000+ .And drive it every weekend . These r restos down to paint marks on frames . A After market grill won't cut it.

I'll buy used before aftermarket .

But I would pay that 4 one . No

I'm lucky, the one that is on my truck is almost flawless...just needs some polishing.

No I'm lucky, I got an NOS 78-79 shell in the attic (going on the crewcab) and I've also got an NOS 73-77 shell in the attic. The 73-77 shell is in the midst of being traded to a guy in Id for a 78-79 NOS shell.:cooldude:

Damn...wish I'da known that...if it falls through, lemme know. I used the original on Red, and I always felt it detracted from the truck...it's gotta couple little scratches and ding marks.

That NOS grill is more than what I'd probably pay. But, I did pay for one of the DC grills. But, that's still saving $200 give or take between the two. I looked at many used ones, but putting a used on on a freshly restored truck would have stuck out like a sore thumb. $600 was very cheap compared to what I had into the rest of the truck and a grill can make or break the truck IMO. However, I did think about stripping the anodized coat off, sand it and then paint a used grill. Either way, that's a pretty price to pay for a NOS grill.

Hopefully DC gets their grill production back online soon, just to give the option back again to get one. They are really nice grills and fit great. I still don't understand the whole aluminum shortage thing, but oh well.

That's the key thing right there, spending all that money on a paint job and then putting a used or cheap grille shell on just doesn't cut it. Unfortunately I would be one of those guys to spend 700 for a shell to make the rest of the truck look good.

Ben I'll let you know if the deal falls thru, I have no use for an early model shell.

Here's another NOS grill shell on ebay.
I don't think the guy realizes that scratches can't be buffed out of anodized aluminum

well, that depends. But, from what I read, it takes alot of work. The anodized aluminum has to be stripped off and the gradually sanded down using various grits of sandpaper starting with 800, than 1200, 1600, 1800 or something like that. Than after all that is done it must be polished up with some tripoli compound. Once it gets polished up it should look really good, but will fade unless waxed regularly or coated with a clear. I've never done this, but I may try doing it just for experience and see how well it works. But, that really is only worth it if the you get a used grill cheap enough and have the time.

Not sure, but most likely from overseas. Does anyone produces aftermarket shells in the U.S. that are of cheaper quality.

I was looking at Broncograveyard and they have the 78/79 grill shell OEM listed and available in November 2009. I wonder if that's an inside to DC coming back online with their production.

Bucks, even tho Bronco lists it in their catalog, they simply drop ship it from DC and DC is out of stock on grill shells. So you wouldn't get one from either place. BOTP sells both DC parts and imports - depends on the part.
I'm starting to wonder about DC. I"ve called them wanting a chrome head light surround for my '78. The first call I made was back this spring (April-may) and I was told they didn't have any. I called today and got the same answer. They can't give me the "low quality aluminum" excuse because they're made of plastic. If there is a demand for these things, why don't they replenish their stock?? Is the economy affecting them or are they really having a hard time making / getting quality reproduction parts. So....I'm on the hunt for a chrome headlight surround for the rectangular light (Left side only - NOS or New DC reproduction in the box).

M78 - that grill surround from BOTP is NOT anodized. They are stamped aluminum and are either left as raw material or sprayed with a clear coating, can't remember what the guy told me but I do remember they are not anodized. If you sent it someplace to have it anadized, you'd still be lookint at the $5-600 range.

I don't know what is going on at DC either. Awhile back When I first ordered an anti-rattle kit, they claimed they had one and then no and then yes. Then I ordered a grill shell and the gal I talked to said yes they have them and then a couple days later I get a call from another gal saying they didn't have any. I'm still impressed with their parts and will for sure order from them in the future and I'm not putting them down by no means, but I do wonder what is really going on.

Yeah, I did know that Graveyard gets many parts from DC and when I saw that in their catalog they said the 78/79 grills will be available Nov 09, I figured that meant that DC is going to start reproducing them again. But then what about the 73/77 grills. I better get some chrome trim ordered before they are out of that and not have any for years.
