HFCM Problem

Crawled under the 06 today to change the fuel filter, opened the drain plug and the fuel flow would never stop. Needles to say I got a nice diesel bath while changing the filter.
Does the HFCM need to be replaced, rebuilt or is there another option?

Wait until your fuel level is low to change filters. Did you have a full tank?

Had burned off about 8-9 gallons from the last fill up, but have never had this issue in the past. Every other time I have ever changed a fuel filter on a 6.0 when you open the drain plug you get a couple of cups of diesel fuel that runs out then fuel flow stops and it is an easy change of the filter. Truck was level.
My thought was that possibly the return fuel valve in the HFCM was going bad allowing fuel to run past it.

Have you found the reason causing this to happen?
As I mentioned never had this problem in the past, also rechecked the mileage since last fill up and had driven 173 miles prior to filter change, so about 12 gallons down.
