help me out 99-03 F150 owners

i am thinking bad thoughts here. i have a 2006 Ford Ranger that a absolutley love, here lately i am considering the full size mod. id like to have a 99-03 F150 with the 5.4L 4x4. my only concern is gas mileage. i get 16-21 in my Ranger. my fiance's father has a 99' with the 5.4 but his is 4x2; he claims her gets 18-20mpg. i would love to have a bigger truck with more power. other than that, what do ya'll like about your trucks. also not sure if i want the supercab or the crew cab. i like the looks of the supercab better...but some crews look good.

they want almost 17k for it. id like to find one with around 55-70k miles on it

I would go for the FX4 package if you can find it. X-cab is nice. I loved mine for stock power in stock application. Now I am going to like it better with the charger! LOL

Fuel mileage wise you would be better to stay with the ranger. I was only getting about 12-14 with mine in stock form. But it is nice to have the bigger truck.

I'm gonna vote for the white SCrew, its the same as mine except for the front seats. I have captains chairs and I think I like the fronts seats better in the truck you are looking at. The big deal with the SCrew is if you need to haul 5 adults the room is their. I would not buy a 4x4 SCrew without the 5.4, you need the extra hp to move the extra weight around.

I like the SuperCrew, but I also realize there's big $$$'s involved. As far as mpg's are concerned- I got 13.8 on a '05 supercab (5.4 4X4) over about 6,000 miles. The 4.6, oddly enough, does much better from what I've heard.

re: Power. My son has a '06 Ranger 4X4 with a 4.0, 5spd, and 4.10 gears. It'll smoke any stock full-size with a 5.4 (think of the weight difference though).

Nice Ranger. I have always had a soft spot for crew cab trucks of any model. I did own a single cab 97, 4.6 liter. That turned out to be one of the best vehicles I have owned. Don't know about mileage for the 97 to 03 Supercrews, but my 05, 4.6 liter averages 16-17 mpg mixed.
