Help, just replaced lifters and no oil getting to top.

Hello, this is my first post and im kind of in a panic. I just replaced the lifters in my 1990 F150 5.8 and put it all back together and when I cranked it up I find the top end is not getting any oil. Any suggestions as to what may cause this is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Why did you replace the lifters? If it was because they were noisy then it's likely you have discovered the real reason why.. they're not getting any oil. That could be as a result of a clogged pickup or a broken oil pump driveshaft, either way you'll have to pull the motor to fix it.

It was working fine before I changed them. I just had noticed a noise and I redone the cam and main bearings a while back. Thought maybe the lifters were wore out and decided to change them. There was oil present before I changed them. Now no oil getting to the top. Thank you for your reply. It does have a new oil pump.

Did you soak the lifters in oil 1st? Did you ck the push rod tubes?

Thank you everyone. Took the motor back apart and some of the lifters Napa gave me were wrong. The guy said they must have put them in the wrong box when doing inventory. They are going to give me all new lifters (the correct ones) again and all new gaskets, etc. Just not too happy about having to do all this labor a second time and wonder if damage could have been done when I started the truck up? I only let it run for about 5min cause I could tell it wasnt getting oil.

Napa guy says he called his "Tech Center" and that because the lifters were actually smaller than original ones then it would not have done any damage. I think he's just trying to cover himself.
