hello

My name is matt, i live in Phoenix,AZ and I just bought a 76 f 250 trailer special. It has some issues, and I am not mechanically inclined, so I was hopeing to get some advice, as far as the price of these fixes. The wife is already yelling saying i over paid.......good times.

The brakes are very stiff, and the dude said that they just need to be bleed. The truck stops, but i have to really anticipate my stops. From what i have read online, it could be the vaccume booster, and the m/c, but i really have no idea. I want to bring it in to a mechanic, but don't wanna get ripped off.

Also, one thing i didn't notice on it untill the next day:headbang: is the gas guage for both tanks isn't working. Is fixing this a big repair? What about the switch to switch the gas tanks? is that gonna cost me an arm and a leg? I bought this to be a daily driver so i didn't have to share the wifes car, but I am thinking I bit off more then i can chew.

Thanks for the advice, and have a great day.

Matt

First off...welcome aboard, we should be able to help you fix that thing up ASAP depending on your fundage.

-First off, if you had air in your lines and needed to bleed them, your pedal would be soft. Hard pedal usually indicates a bad booster. A relatively easy fix, and should run you $100ish and an afternoon.

-The gas tanks could be a little trickier, could be a bad ground, somethings not hooked up or you need new sending units. Again, relatively easy, but kinda time consuming.

-As for the switch, never had one with dual tanks, so I'll defer that to someone else.

Welcome. Post sum pics sometime!

thanks UTfball68. doesn't sound too bad at all. If i were to do this myself, do I need some specificl tool, like with bleeding?

Yah, the gas thing does suck. Having a gas can full all the time in the back gets old real fast. Esp. since the can only holds 5 gallons. Barely enough to get me to a gas station.

As for pics, no i don't have any. I looked to see if i could find the ad on craigstlist, but it was already taken off. Thanks again

No real special tools...but I would spray down the bleeder with penetrating oil to make sure it's not rusted closed. I also use a line wrench to prevent rounding, but it can be done with a regular combo wrench. Beyond that, get a second person to work the brakes. But really, if you have hard pedal, I doubt you have air in your lines...more than likely a bad booster.
