Hi all. I'm new to the site, but have been working on my 1951 F1 build for a couple of years now. It was my wife's father's truck. He passed away about 12 years ago and he was in the middle of rebuilding the motor. It sat outside, and got pretty nasty. It's a frame up fix-it project, and has so far been pretty fun.
The flathead V8 is pretty rusted up and has some cracks in the block...the entire block was full of mice when I brought the truck into the garage...nasty. The 3 spd still seems to shift fine. But, I'm upgrading to make it a daily driver, wiht some extra pep jus tfor the fun of it.
I have a 1988 Ford F150 with the 302 and M5R2 5 spd manual transmisison. My plan is to lower the 51 slightly (2-3"), use the stock front and rear end, and upgrade with the 302 and 5spd, along with power disc brakes up front, obviously switch to 12V, and a complete frame and body job. The goal is to hold on to some nostalgic parts like the i-beam axle, and upgrade the truck for modern driving.
