heater core blues

ok,, so picked up a new heater core for the f250 5.4, and tried to remove those dang quick connect heater hoses, what the heck? is there a special tool or cuss word you have to use to get them off? I have done some searching and many people seem to just cut them off, but dont want to buy new hoses as well... any ideas? looks like I'll wait till next weekend to do this job now..

There is a tool (doesn't work worth a damn) but I have better luck with 2 small screwdrivers under the "ears" of the clips. If you break them, the clips are available seperately.
