all i can find for the VIN is: X26SKAJ29-- and in a block to the right is:

trying to figure out what engine it has in it, the heads are 2V cleveland heads.

cleveland heads,

do they fit on a 400 engine? there is a definate "2" on the top corners of the heads. The engine may or may not be original.

I'm pretty sure all the truck 351M/400's came with standard 2bbl heads...I think the true 2bbl Cleveland heads had different sized valves...and I believe they fit.

my memory.

I think, if my memory serves me correctly, that only cleveland heads had the numbers in the corners, either a "2" or a "4", is this correct?

I looked at the link you provided, and it hurts my old eyes, too blurry I reckon.

As far as I know, yes (on the 2 and 4).

I think to fully figure it out you need the casting #.

10/78 would be a 1979, but that's impossible based on the last 6 digits of the VIN

1978 serial number range: AE0,001-CK9,999

Production date printed on the Safety Standard Certification Label, glued to the door post below the striker plate.

Your F250 came w/a 400 originally.

351C/351M/400 look identical, have 8 valve cover bolts per side. There is no timing cover per se, just a flat engine cover plate.

The fuel pump bolts to the left (drivers) side of the engine block.

Thanks,

But will 351C heads fit all of the above mentioned engines? I ask because these heads have the number "2" cast on the top inner corner like my old '70 ranchero had. except the ranchero had "4" instead.

See if you can find the casting number and the date code on the heads.

351C 2V heads are different than 4V heads. But, 351C heads are not the same as 351M/400 heads, that were turds, because they were very prone to cracking.

yes,

2v heads had smaller valves, and my 4v heads had small chambers. I don't know of any other ford heads that had the 2 or 4 cast onto the top of the heads, in the corners. I'll look for any other numbers. So, this must be a 351C engine if they are 351C heads, correct?

Not necessarily. The 1975/82 351M/400 heads were very prone to cracking, so it's possible it's the original 400 engine with 351C heads on it.

You'll have to measure the stroke to determine if it's a 351C/351M or a 400.

Look for casting numbers and the casting date code on the block.

1977/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco 351M/400 block casting number prefix is D7TE
