I've been trying to figure it out.

My skills aren't that sharp, but I'm coming up with a master cylinder for a 1944 car?

I profess to be a crabbly...cynical old SOB, a military historian, car & gun collector...and a Packard enthusiast.

And...before I was a Ford partsman...I was a Studebaker/Packard partsman. No scheiss Sherlock!

Ford did not begin using those A part number prefixes until the mid 1950's, when they revised a few of previous part number suffixes.

1940/49 Passenger Car, as original: 1940: O1A / 1941: 11A / 1942: 21A / 1944/45: 41A / 1946/47: 59A / 1948: 79A / 1949: 8A.

8A became A8AZ, 79A became A7AZ. The rest stayed pretty much the same.

1556929 = This is you Dennis....in Studebaker speak! :rolling laugh:

I'll break it down for you two

A4AZ-

A4 (as opposed to an A1)

AZ (short for AZZ)

2140 - Master Cylinder ..aka: (Master parts guy known to go hydraulic on us)

A- First edition
