gutless 400 F250

Hey,

so I am in the lawn biz in Colorado. My 79 is ultra reliable, and equally slow. So here I am gettn educated on the 400. Not trying to make a race/show truck outa it, just tryn to haul commercial lawnmowers without buying a new diesel. Is that too much to ask?

So I see on Jeg's a Edelbrock ez kit intake/cam/lifters/carb (part #2171pk). Jeg's says I'll get 300 HP with this setup, and its $650. Sounds great. Maybe some headers too. Still under my budget of $1,000.

might do bottom end next winter...

Do you think the EZ kit addresses the cam timing issue?

can I rip out all that dumb spahgetti smog caca?

sure we have Air Care Colorado here, and they are supposed to check for emissions controls.

They missed the fact that I sawed off my Cat a couple years ago. Furthermore it escaped their attention that I do not have a belt on my smog pump!!

So I think I can "dummy up" the truck to pass the visual inspection. I have a feeling that the tailpipe emissions will improve with the edelbrock stuff.

will the the non egr edelbrock parts cause other problems I need to know about? Will I hafta spend buukkuu $$ to resolve it all? Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion...

Anyhoo, thanks for readin, and I have enjoyed the forum as a nuubee spectator..BL

Putting on a cam gear that gets rid of the stock 8 deg retard will make the most difference.

Can't tell you about the emissions stuff. We don't have to mess with that stuff up here.

Welcome to a great bunch of 73-79 owners...

I'm with him on knowing more about the mod motors than the M-Blocks.
Welcome to the site and their are plenty of knowledgeable people here.
I had I believe a 1971 400 in my 1978 F150 with no smog or emissions stuff, but i bought it that way. I added a Edelbrock single plane performer intake with a Holley 650 or 750 double pumper. It got up and went, but sure sucked the gas down too.
