Greetings

Good Day folks,
I am new to FTF and am an owner of a '79 F250. I recently started having problems with my work car and want to start refurbishing this jewel. I am growing to appreciate the ease of service these trucks are and the room you have to sort out the issues that may pop up. I am looking forward to much of your advice as I am already :headbang: having starter issues. Glad to be part of the group and looking forward to getting to know many of you as well as any advice you might have. Thanks!!!

Welcome to FTF...There are many Generation 6 lovers on here(me being one.) I have a '78 f250 4x4. Your '79 is having starter issues? what's it doing? I know my truck and many diff ppl with these trucks have probs with the ignition it seems. I had to use a push bottom start for mine as the starter wire that conects to the solenoid had 12volts at all times, keeping the starter engaged.

but..If you can't get the starter to work and all the wires are hooked up and doing fine...it may just be a bad solenoid.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Evan's I found out the problem with mine. My 17 year old son is into body work and wanted to learn the mechanical side of things so he has been helping me troubleshoot. I had him check the ring gear / flex plate and mounting surface to which he confirmed all was good. Well his version of good on the ring gear and mine are different. I got a mirror up there and noticed some very flat looking ring gear teeth so I am in the midst of pulling the motor forward to swap it out for a new one. Just out of curiosity, do you know if the old ring gear can be removed from the flex plate by heating it in a conventional oven at 250-300 ? I have an extra stove I use in the garage (wife would beat me if I used the home one :p). Failing that I may just replace the whole thing. Thanks again!!
