Hey fellas...this isn't a question really, just sharing. A while back, when I got my Bronco, I noticed it was pinging slightly. I know it's not good, and I know fuel quality/rating and timing can effect the pinging. Anyway, I decided to go the easy route and up the octane rating, and the pinging went away. Then one day I passed a Conoco...and they had a sign saying it was the only 100% gasoline in Knoxville. I figured that was cool, but made me look at the other gas stations around town...and every single one of them had a disclaimer saying there was an ethonol mix up to 15%. So that made me think...well maybe I could go back to Conoco, drop down octane levels again and be ok. So I did...and it worked. I don't know much about how octane actually effects efficiency and whatnot...but I surely know the pinging still stayed away. So the reason I bring this up now is...when I was at home, we don't have any 100% gasoline gas stations...and the pinging returned...doh. And now I'm into my second tank back in Knoxville, pinging is gone again.
Anyway, I just thought it was interesting that I can use the same octane rating at different gas stations and get different results. I also thought it was interesting that the places that claim 100% gasoline charge the same per gallon as any surrounding competition. Anyone else experienced this? Should I maybe adjust the timing?
