Fuel pumps wont shut off

So the last week or so ive noticed that sometimes when i shut off the engine after running for awhile (more than 10 minutes) the fuel pump keeps running for anywhere from 1-7 minutes. They seem to get louder as the time goes on (upwards of 3 minutes) but that could just be my immpatiance. I refuse to leave the truck when they do this because i dont want a possible fuel spill sitiation. My friend just got an 87 bronco that does the same thing occasionally.

Is this the fuel pump relay going out? Sometimes i can turn the key to Acsesory and then off again and they shut off sometimes not, so it seems like the signal from the relay isnt always going through

Not the same type of vehicle, but an 89 mercury grand marquis.

Moms pump kept running. I found that by smacking the box the relay was in...it would shut off. I know...not scientific, but it worked until I could get time to replace the relay.

Give that a try and see if they shut off or not.

Bad fuel pump relay, you need to change it out.

Yep I also had 1 truck would shut off going down road . (I got it cheap) The guy couldn't figuire it out . I drove home shut off . When I slambed the hood it started right up.
Cheap fix cheap truck .

I can't remember on your truck but u may have another that u can barrow to see if it is it .

Damn junkyard was closed yesterday so i couldnt pick up a new relay.

anyone need anything i should look for while im there this week? this is a new scrapyard so who knows what i can find!

A fuel pump relay is about $10 from napa. Should be the same or cheaper elsewhere.

Unless you just want some spares to throw on a shelf. LOL

Everything!!! Just look around . You'll know the parts that r need most when see um. Tach dash ,door arm rests ,seats .don't buy but let us know.
