i got a 1980 f150 4x4 and I broke some gears in the front differential and Im wondering if could just take the front driveshaft out and still drive it?

You sure can... you should be able to drive it in 2wd with out hurting anything...
and be able to leave the d-shaft in...

if you pull the driveshaft you might leak fluid, my memory is fuzzy on those transfercases...

Or, unlock the hubs and the transfer case out of gear. Nothing should turn in the diff that way.

But to answer your question, the shaft bolts in with u-bolts on both ends - you can remove it without problems also.

This is the correct way...as you do NOT want the gears to turn in the front differential...
