Front D60 parts

I may have located a HP D60 but it will need some rebuilding if I get it. Basically, I was told the drivers side is missing pretty much everything (whatever that means). I'm assuming the knuckle, axle shaft, caliper bracket, caliper/brakes and rotor. I'm trying to get a pic. My question is, what else would it be missing other than the parts I listed. Any good source to get those parts?

That's a great thread and some nice pics too. I will keep that in mind. From the sounds of it, the caliper brackets may be the toughest thing to find. Thanks.

Edit: I did find this and may be something to look into......granted if I'm able to get the axle. Doesn't hurt to get the research done.

Caliper brackets are the toughest part.

In the link that you posted I couldn't help but notice the, "Will not fit stock Ford knuckles" part.

Watch eBay for the caliper brackets, they show up regularly. I'd suggest going with the later (after 78-79) brackets and corresponding calipers (got mine from Rock Auto). Supposedly they'll work on the 78-79 D60 axle. I have yet to assemble mine yet, but that's the word.

Yeah, I noticed the "will not fit stock knuckles" so I would have to get those different ones posted. I would need a knuckle anyway and those are supposed to be more heavy duty. I did see a pair of stock caliper brackets going on ebay, but I'm debating about spending the $
$$$$$ especially since I'm not quite sure the axle is available or not. I guess I could always re-sell them.

Edit: I went ahead and bought some off of ebay. The only ones on there was for $150 which seems high, but I've researched and I can't seem to find new ones so I guess it is what it is. I could always try and re-sell them or just keep them for a rainy day. Hopefully, the axle that is supposed to become available does and if it does, it's a start. I think I can easily get the other parts I need.

Reason why they are expensive if you can find them now. Thanks for the info.

Wow, that must mean that I have at least a $3500 axle taking up space in my garage.

The '73/79 Ford truck parts catalog does not list the axleshaft spline count. I looked when the OP first asked this question.

Ford: D8TA-ACD / Dana: 610023-6 = Dana 60-F Front Driving Axle / 4.10-1 / non Limited Slip / Free Running Hubs / 4,500 lb. Front Axle Capacity.

Front Driving Axle Parts List: 30.5AA.

Did you read all it had on it though?

That's still pretty steep though, even though he's probably taking a 2k hit on it as is. I was thinking 3-3500 max.

Concerning the axle shafts, I see that the stock shafts are 35 spline inner and 30 spline outer. Looking at Bronco graveyard, the 35 spline chrome-moly outer axle is $10 cheaper. Granted I'd have to upgrade the lockout hubs to 35 spline. I'm just wondering if thats' the way to go or just keep it at 30 spline. Granted, the axle already has 1 side original with the 30 spline outer shaft, but if it's worth it, I'd just upgrade both sides with the 35 spline out shaft and lockouts.

My guess is you won't be doing anything anymore hardcore than maybe a mud puddle...if that's the case, I say you surely wouldn't need it. However, if you're gonna do it, may as well do it 'right' the first time.
