ford engine id f600

would like to id this engine i bought forma junk yard.......
it came out of a 1979 f700 tow truck.....was the 3rd engine in the truck


i pulled out a 330 5.4.....on the new engine, the i.d. of the harmonic balencer is larger than the 330 .......i was going to swap the pullys but couldnt cause the of the i.d. being differnt

As original 1979 F600/880: 370 or 429. Last year for FT engines (330/361/391): 1978.

Casting numbers are worthless for ID'ing engine blocks in most cases, as they cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

I doubt you would find a 330 in any 1979, as the engine mounts are totally different than the original 370/429.

Look on the harmonic balancer for the Ford ID number, post what it is.

FT (and FE) engines have FIVE valve cover bolt holes per side. 370/429/460 engines have SEVEN valve cover bolt holes per side.
