F350 with a 302

That's what I ended up doing with the 82. Found a 351W, rebuilder had a good crank and made it 393 and there never was any issue about power or anything. My 85 F150 4x4 had a 351W and everyone loved it.

Wow, what a great response. So much information!! I'll double check tomorrow to see if its a 351w. Sounds like it should be. Thanks to all.

Most likley a 5.8. I know in 94 you could get the 351 in 250's but not sure about 350's

We still have F350's with 351 till 97 . The small motors died out with the auto over drives and 5 spd manuals .

I'd rather have the 302 than the 5.4 triton I own any day. Our 5.4 doesn't produce decent power untill the rpm is past 3000, where the 302's produce their power at a lower level. My kid took my old 302 and 2 grand and made a kick but Mustang and 2 grand doesnt go far with the 5.4

Yep, its a 351w as you all had suggested it should be. If in the future, I find the need to increase the cubic inches, I'm thinking there is the 393 rebuild option, or change to a 460. For trailering moderately heavy loads, any opinions on which way to go? I am assuming the stock 5 speed trans can handle the added power. Clutch upgrade? This is definately a work truck, and will be carrying decent loads most of the time. Again, thanks to all.

Oh the trans will hold. Should be a ZF trans one of best HD trans Ford ever made.

When we turned our 351 into a 393 we also added an rv cam. We saw a good increase in power, actually better than my friends 400M in a similiar truck. We did not dyno it, but I would say a good 375 ft lbs torque and around 310 hp or so. That was a carb motor, I don't know if thr factory FI can support this but my 393 was close to a stock 80's 460 and a bit better in mpg. I had AOD that was reworked a bit for the extra power. I would get a better clutch but I don't know enough about that trans to help you.
