F 250 lift question

I seem to remember a lot of folks using the '03 springs...and it ranged somewhere between a 6-8" lift.

so just bolting a set of '03 super duty springs to a '79 F-250 will lift it?

I dont believe that is right. A well known user on the other site is using 8 inch super duty lift springs in several of his trucks and clearing 40 inch rubber in one and 44's on his orange one with lowered spring mounts. I think the stock springs would offer very little if any lift on these older trucks.

Yeah...I worded that pretty weird...I thought it was 6-8" springs from SD's in or around '03. I've never been interested in such a lift, so I'm going out on a limb here, and don't know all the details.

To answer the op........

I have a lifted 79 F250 and one day will be putting Sduty springs under the front end. They ride and flex better.

The only mod needed to get them into the truck (73-77's require more work) will be to drill out the front spring mounts to a slightly larger bolt size since the Sduty springs have larger bushings.

As far as how much a lifted Sduty spring will lift a 78-79 F250??? First off stick with the gasser (Triton V8, V10) springs. No one has ever said an exact amount but the older, lighter truck will be lifted higher with the newer springs. Somewhere around 2"s higher I believe. So a 4" spring will get you about 6"s in 78-79 and so on. So get the front end on the new springs and then address the rear end to match, this isn't an exact science. Keep in mind I have yet to do this, but I have read a ton of info by very knowledgeable people who have done this.

Using stock Sduty springs are a waste of time and probably get you little to no elevation change.

Lee...don't most guys just use a Sky Shackle flip in the rear to get the matching lift? Also, for the 73-77's...wasn't it just a spring width issue? Which isn't too bad of a fix.

You can use a shackle flip (4.5"s of lift), blocks (please don't!), add a leaves, or all new packs (or a combo of any and all of these) to elevate the rear.

As far as the 73-77's go the spring width is the same as the 78-79's in the front, 3"s. The rears on the 73-77's are 2.5"s and the 78-79's are 3"s just like the fronts.

To put Sduty springs on the north end of a 73-77 the front spring hanger needs to be addressed just like the 78-79's. But you also have to change the length of the rear swing shackle on the highboy's. The Sduty springs will flex so much that the rear of the spring will contact the frame before the spring will get to full flex.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that it was the stock springs from an 03.
I wantd to know because I could have picked up a set for next to nothing.
Also I think I would have bushings made for the spring mounting bolts rather then drilling the mounts, so that nothing on the truck is altered from stock.

FWIW, you have to drill very little. Something like 1/8-1/16".

What year superduty springs were people using to lift the 78-79 f250's.
I tried a search but couldn't find any threads or write ups on it
Thanks

So does this mean the bone stock look of your Supercab is expecting a lift?
