exhaust

got an 89 150 lariat 4.9l. wondering what i could do to the exhaust to make it get that deep rumble sound. i know you cant make a 6 sound like a v8 but i want to get it close. any suggestions?

Main thing to get the sound is the muffler and larger diameter pipes. The reason the fart can mufflers give the tone they do is because of the diameter for the most part. You could get some tone from simply putting a larger pipe towards the back. The stock muffler will hinder that some, need a performance type muffler to help out.

There are many performance mufflers out there to chose from and most sites will have a sound clip to listen to. (Thrush, Magnaflow, Gibson, Heartthrob, Flowmaster, Corsa, just to name a few)

but on a I6... no.....

borla is the best sounding IMO on really anything..

You've obviously never heard one with that exhaust.....they've got a good deep tone. I've never heard borla on anything, that I know of, so you may be right.

yeah.. i have.. they sound GREAT at idle.. but as soon as you rev it, it sounds like a dam ricer... WAY raspy...

Gibson sounds incredible but they're bad for drone in the cab. Had the stainless Super Sport Truck exhaust that exits in front of the passenger rear tire.
