Everybody im just not sure??!!

Ok i got an old 78 f150 4x4 with a 351m. Ive done a complete tune up and replaced plugs, wire, distributor cap, button, coil , alternator, voltage regulator , new battery, 2 mufflers and tail pipes.Full service on all fluids. It runs good and the previous owner works as a mechanic at the same shop i work at. He isnt really familar with these truck though. He rebuilt the carb and you guys have told me my float may be too high but the truck is running rich enough that i smell it from my exhaust. im planning to replace my carb eventually, but could the running rich cause my exhaust to sound raspy? It just doesnt sound like it should when im driving up the road. My pipes come out right in front of both my rear wheels so i opened my door today on the way home just to listen do it. The truck sounded the same way before i replaced the two mufflers. I just used some cheap turbo tubes at the shop. The truck runs good and i know i do have some carb issues and i just wander if this could cause it to not sound quite right. It has been this way since i got it but i want to fix it and i dont think its my mufflers or even my exhaust at all? All you guys throw me some help i know you have had this issue. I also know that it is very hard to describe a sound but its kinda like when you got crappy old tail pipes. Its kinda like and exhaust leak sound but my pipes are not leaking my tailpipes are new too and the rest of the exhaust is old but not leaking. Its very dang hard to explain!! Thanks

Are you saying you're getting small backfires/detonations in your pipes? Can you get a video? You mentioned exhaust leak...possibly a warped manifold?
