Engine shutting off?

My friend's 04 F150 4X4 has recently been shutting off.

It's got the 4.6L motor.

It only shuts off when he is sitting at idle and turns the wheel, or is sitting in gear, and turns the wheel. It will go down the road no problem, but any time the motor is idling, or is in gear and sitting still, or SLOWLY moving, it shuts the motor off.

A "Check Gauges" light comes on in the dash after shutoff, and goes away after being restarted.

No check engine light.

Any ideas?

Also, says the steering is tighter than normal, i am quite sure it has no connection, but hey, you never know.

Kinda reaching, but maybe the power steering pump? If binding or low on fluid, it could draw enough to stall at idle....

Take the belt off, then see if it still does it.
