Engine pull in a 1977 Highboy

My son has a 1977 F250 4x4 Highboy. It should be inside a two story garage with an over head lift. It is not. It is parked on the side of my house. We are going to pull the engine in the very near future. We have pulled the front end clip. I can handle all the normal stuff to get ready to pull the engine. My question/concern is about the tranny. I do not plan on pulling anything more than the engine. I have never pulled an engine connected to a tranny with a transfer case before. What is the proper procedure for disconnecting the tranny from the engine? I would imagine that I lossen the motor mounts and then put a little tension on the motor. Losen the tranny mounts while supporting the tranny on a jack. Remove the bellhousing bolts. lift the engine and jack the tranny till I get the clearance to slip the tranny input shaft out of the engine. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions welcomed.

You forgot to undo the torque converter... You can actually take the bell housing bolts out as it sits without having to move anything.

Here is how I do them:
Remove motor mount bolts, bell housing bolts, torque converter nuts and anything still attached to the motor. Torque converter nuts can be done through the starter hole and lower cover. Support the trans with floor jack or trans jack, lightly raising up, then raise the motor up, following along with the trans lift until motor can clear the frame. With the clip off, you won't have to lift as high.

The motor should separate fairly easy from the transmission when all the bolts are out. Another little tip, the studs on the converter will only pass through the flexplate in one position, so it would be wise to take a bright color and paint one of the studs while still passed through the flexplate to give you a reference for when it goes back together.

I would also recommend that while you have the motor out, replace the front pump seal on the transmission.
