Engine and Truck detail identification

I own a '90 f250 ext cab long box. It has a 5.8L with a 5-speed standard tranny. I have had this truck for a few years now, and since I finally have the time and money I have decided to fix it up. After I found out what powertrain it has, it made it worth it. I need to know what exactly what engine I am dealing with so I can get the correct performance parts, the manual I bought for my truck says there are several different 351 engines: Windsor, Lightning, Modified, Cleveland. I am fairly certain it is not a Cleveland or Lightning. I am certain it has a four-bolt main which rules out the Cleve. And I am fairly sure the Lighning is only available in 150 sport models. I dont know the difference between the Windsor or Modified.

You should have a 351W if no one swapped engines. Also you will need to find out if it is Speed Density or MAF sensor. If you have SD you can can change it to MAF. I am very doubtful you have a Lightning engine they came out in 93. Look at the sticker under the striker plate and it will give tyhe codes on engine, trans, rear and gear ratio.

it's a 351 Windsor. it is NOT a 4 bolt main.

Clevelands were never put in a truck. also were only built 70-74...

the lightning 351.. is a typical stock windsor bottom end.. it has GT40 Heads and a GT40 intake and HO cam. just different specs on those parts.

93-95 F150 Lightnings were the ticket for that.

a M is a tall deck cleveland.. it stopped production in 81..

Thank you much for the info, after checking the four bolt main I found out I was confused on what that meant exactly, I personally have put more than 100 hours into fixing this truck, and in that was replacing the timing chain that had slipped a few teeth, when I took apart the bottom end there were four sets of two bolts. Also the tranny has an integrated bellhousing clutch, which I have been told is an extra heavy duty tranny when compared to other ford trannys. Flareside: thanks for mentioning the mass airflow sensor, I thought that was stock. Also as a sidenotr everything, to the best of my knowledge, is stock.

The thing that confused me most in the identification with the engine is that the rebuild manual says the M has a water cooled throttle body, which mine does as well.

i'd have to see what you mean by theyre saying the M has a coolant passage on the throttle body. which would be the carb cause M's and clevelands were never Fuel Injected.

and the coolant lines to the throttle body, are really only to help warm up the throttle body on cold days, and to keep it from freezing in the winter cause the anti-freeze..
