Generally, yes. A lot depends on the driving style involved in getting it up to temp. The important thing is that they stay relatively close together when fully warmed up.

I would like to put a tranny temp on my F250... any ideas how to add one ? cannot be as simple a water temp gauge just before the tranny cooler ?

When I first put mine on, I used an unused bung on the side above the trans pan, but my new box has deep sump with a bung in it so I used that!
