Hm... I'm confused... So the shroud is from another fan and you modified it to fit your non-shrouded fan?

Ooooo!! Neat!! That's a pretty sweet setup. Is the fan air tight to the shroud? How do you have it sealed?
It has 8 rubber isolators and the gaps are filled with closed cell foam glued in place!!!

So it's got the isolators and cell foam glue to fill the gaps between the fan and the shroud, but what is holding the fan in place and keeping it from falling out / vibrating out? Is it fastened down somehow?

There is a #10 socket head capscrew with a nylon insert locknut @ each isolator!!!

Well without seeing some closeups I can't form an opinion about how reliable it'll be in the long run. I know that my taurus fan didn't make a good seal against my radiator so I used some real dense weatherstripping and a couple weeks later the fan came on and I heard some NASTY noises... It sucked all the weather stripping through

But I know you Robert-- you're VERY detail oriented. I'm sure you did it right.

That weatherstrip tape is not too strong. The setup is pretty stout. I don't think it's going to fall apart any time soon. The packing foam fit pretty tight before I glued it in. Nothing loose no rattles, Solid Quality!!!

I have to ask... Why go through all the trouble when you can just get a tbird fan
You know me! I like to make things look like they are supposed to be there. Besides the more time I spend forking with stuff the less time I'm sitting on my duff!!!

Better coverage, new electric motor in the fan maybe? These electric motors don't last forever. Starting new is better than starting with a motor that is ~15 years old and likely has seen it's better days.
