Dual Battery

Thinking about adding a second battery. (Never hurts to have too much juice, and I'd enjoy running some aux stuff)

Thoughts, suggestions, bashings?

Perfect...I've been wondering how Ford did it. I was thinking a second battery in the Bronco would be nice for camping, back woods excursions and trips.

Being a guy who runs an aux Battery. I would suggest an RV Deep Cycle battery for accessories used with an isolator

I know there is a supposed problem regarding dual battery science but I never had any problem with mine

Here is Ford's wiring followed by the standard wiring.

Here's the one reason why I choose an Optima: It's sealed.

I took this truck offroad right before the tranny took a nose dive on me, and when I parked it afterwards, I noticed a weird puddle of something underneath the engine bay. Popped the hood, and the damn battery had busted its strap and fallen over on my alternator (held in place by its cables). The acid was eating away at my alternator's case and dropping down onto the ground lol

It was great when I had to use the winch. You could draw off both batteries.
But you would have to manually switch from one to the other to charge.
I had it mounted just above the floor shifter near the fire wall.

If you are going to use the second battery for a cabover camper as you mentioned in the other thread you should follow Dennis' diagram with an isolator and deep cycle RV battery. Otherwise you will drain your truck battery when you are using 12v in the camper.

Diode type isolators have a forward voltage drop....the battery never sees the proper voltage for proper charging...it is a fact..period.
You are better off using a pair (or one) of continous duty solenoids depending on what you want to accomplish.
Cole-Hersee makes 225A continous duty ones for around $40.
Xantrex makes a ready built one:

And...if you are serious about batteries, get Lifeline or Deka units...Optimas are fine....but the other brands mentioned are superior.

Duncan , It's good to see you still take a little time to visit.
I always look forward to reading your answers because they're always understandable and to the point.

You've got a little something on your chin. Oh, nevermind, it's just Duncan's balls.
