Drum brake cylinder pistons

Hey guys, this is my first post here and I hope you can help. My son and I are rebuilding a '78 F150 stepside 4x4 and we're trying to get the rear brakes back on. Realized tonight that the driver side brake cylinder pistons were not in and we don't have them. That side was completely stripped when we bought the truck but we didn't realize it at the time. I had gotten a complete rebuild kit online and when I called the company about it they said those parts are supposed to be reused and they aren't included as part of the kit. We went to AZ and O'Reilly and they didn't have them and a web search didn't turn up anything either. So I guess that a junkyard trip is in order. My question though is, do I have to look for pistons from a '78 F150 or was this same part used in other vehicles? If so, what ones and what years?

I also need to find the Parking brake links and springs for both sides so if anyone has a line on those I'd appreciate that as well. (I can find the right one online but for some reason not the left. Weird...) Same questions for these as well: What other vehicles and what years can I rob some from to get these brakes to work? The truck has 11 1/4" drum brakes on it.

Thanks, I appreciate any help on this.

They really aren't pistons, they just extend from the piston that is inside the cylinder to the drums. Can't answer what the proper name is, but as you have found, generally not replaced and tough to find. Heck, the little spring wrapped around the bar is hard to find as well. The 9" rear is common, so the parts are out there. Not sure if someone like LMC or Bronco Graveyard would be of much help.

The rear hydraulic units are called wheel cylinders and you should be able to get complete units from the parts stores pretty cheap, I bought some this last summer for my broncos nine inch. There is a left and a right one as well, if you can't find any let me know as i have several lying around here at my house.

I did find Macs Auto Parts has the brake shoe cylinder links for $4.95, B7A-2042-A. No luck on the cross bar. Sometimes the Help racks have them.

I found a parking brake spreader bar on a site called Toms Bronco Parts, $14.95, they also have the spring for it.

Finding more now... Google is your friend... H1414-2 is the part number at O'Reilly and Advance for the cylinder links. The spreader bar spring is also available there. Jeff's Bronco Graveyard has the spreader bars and springs as well.
