If you go ahead with this swap, I assume you won't want those parts from my 351/400?

You know duncan I got to thinking about that when we were PMing each other. At this time in my life i'm flying down a very bumpy dirt road I'm low on cash in what seems to be a stale met between jobs a slowly dieing 302 and a very new very healthy 460 sitting in my drive way..
So as much as I hate to say it I may not to ether.. If you can sell those parts to make some extra cash then I would say go for it Duncan.
I'm very sorry, and thank you for keeping them for me..
But i'm in to place to start building a engine from the ground up right now or for a very long time for that matter..

Tex, The guys are right, everything will swap right over. When I first got my truck 12 years ago it had a 429 in it, it came with a 302 from the factory. I didn't do the swap but I have done a lot of studying and asking questions on my truck. There's one thing I learned real quick, most people don't know much about 429/460 Fords. Stick with the guys who own them, and those who race them. I have a suggestion, If you are going to do this swap, while the 460 is out swap the heads for c8,c9 or dove castings. Also install an early timing chain and gear set that doesn't have 8 degree retard. Just these 2 changes will increase horspower and fuel mileage. Go big block, you'll be glad you did. Randy.

Thank you randy I'm happy to say the heads on my fo sixy are the Dove :D
And I don't know about the timing I know the engine was rebuilt not to long ago also I think who ever had it rebuilt knew what they were doing.
This engine runs Soo unbelievably smooth even then I was messing with the time and had gotten a bad tank of gas the engine wouldn't so much as twitch, i've personally never seen a engine run so smooth before...

Tex, I forgot to mention the tall motorsport valve covers won't clear your brake booster if you have the large diameter 11 inch one. You won't need to worry with stock valve covers.

Sooo glad you mentioned the valve covers. Some dork put on fancy chrome poo covers on my 460 before I got her, and them damn things weren't clearing my rocker arms. To buy the tall chrome covers would've cost a small fortune...nothing like NOS anyway. I love opening my hood and seeing "Power By Ford".

I would have liked to use tall aluminum covers on mine, but with the A/C box, I couldn't clear, so I had to go with just chrome ones.

I was checking out all your pics of the build...it's really something man, good job...you've got more patience than I do. I always wanna do something and finish it right away. I would probably lose my job and get dropped from school from devoting ALL my time 24/7 until that thing was done.

That rig is already looking top notch :) I like the blue paint you're using too...so much, that I think I'll snag it for my own re-painting that's coming up on the Beast.

yeah I was wrong I do have the large break booster :( So I need a new break booster..
Man the cost of this swap seems to be going up and up..

Tex. you don't need a new brake booster with stock valve covers. You can run crome valve covers on a stock engine with stock rocker arms as well. When you install roller rockers some valve covers hit at the top center bolt. I have even modified the crome ones that hit the rocker arm by taking a 2x4 and lying it on the outside of the valve cover about 1/4 inch above the top center bolt and bending the valve cover slightly in a vise. The only time you need the tall valve covers is when you run a stud girdle on the rocker arms. You wont need to do that, stop worrying and do the swap and start out running the mustang gt's and camaros and have fun.
