(excerpt from FMCDEALER) You just might be a dinosaur mechanic if you........

used a Sun distributor test machine when changing points & condenser

replaced floor mounted headlight dimmer switches

drilled holes in fenders during the PDI to install the radio antennas

used empty Motorcraft tune up kits to store your screws & bolts

replaced a Ford starter bendix on a daily basis

removed the plastic limiter caps to adjust fuel mixture on a carburetor

replaced blown power valves

replaced burned out EGR plates

ever stuck a BB in the hose to the EGR valve

replaced burned out choke heat tubes

replaced a diaphragm in a VV Carburetor

installed a plastic shield on a Pinto fuel tank

used white touch paint to mark the timing mark on the crankshaft dampener

used a small screwdriver on the starter solenoid to bump the engine over to TDC

stuck a golf tee in the distributor vacuum hose while adjusting the ignition timing

repaired engine fire jobs caused by leaking fuel filter hose

still have an oil can spout in your tool box

I see 3 . The plug vacuum with tee. Mark timing. (I just can't see the marks )and the dimmer switch.

I put the floor switchin a new 95 I had . Might do it to my current ride. Dont have to set down coffee or stop eating that way ;)

How come they're all in the past tense? Driving the '48F1 I still do most of those things.

What's EGR, something new-fangled? (jk)

Also, instead of white paint on the dampener, typing 'white out' works better. Dries faster and has it's own llittle brush.......

BUT, I don't have to work a second job in order to afford insurance, make truck payments and pay for trips to the local auto tech to have my truck fixed cause it won't start or is doing 'something funny'.

So, OK, I am a dinosaur mech......is this the support group?

Round 2 (for Brian,mtflat,bobf100)

Volume II

You might be a dinosaur mechanic if you....

Installed external oiling kits on 292 & 312 Y-block engines

Replaced leaking cork intake gaskets on Ford FE engines

Still have the Ford special tools to adjust the bands on early Ford automatic transmissions

You use to routinely pull the hose off of the transmission modulator valve to check for fluid in the hose

replaced more steering column shift collars and turn signal switches than you care to remember.

you knew when a Ford with an automatic trans was towed in for a no crank condition, you could hold up on steering column shift lever and it would start right up.

You used to mist water into the carburetor to decarbon the combustion chamber.

You replaced more plastic window regulator rollers than you can count

You still have the special tool to open & close the A/C compressor service ports and remove the protective caps.

When you started working you did not need or want any metric tools

How about the rope style rear main seal on the FE blocks. What a PITA
