Digging into my first F250...

I just bought my first F series truck this morning...

It's an '89 F250 4X4 single cab "Farm Truck" that hasn't been registered since 2007.

It seems to run and drive okay, but needs some TLC.

The wipers, speedometer, temp gauge and left turn signal don't work and it's got a noticeable exhaust leak near the engine.

I'll go through and give it a good service and check some of the things mentioned in posts here.

I plan to use it to haul car parts and tow my car trailer to the dragstrip from time to time.

I'm looking forward to learning about my new toy!

I like the color. Looks like a good truck to start with. What are your plans?

Wow, that is a very straight and good looking truck!

I just got a 91 F350 and the speedo didnt work either. The gears in the tcase were stripped out. Thats the 1st place id start with that.

Congrats again on the buy. Looks a hell of a lot better than farm trucks up here!

Thanks guys,

I've been driving it around a little.

The left turn signal just needed to be used for a change. They probably hadn't used the turn signals since 2007. No need to signal on the farm! :)

There is some rust in the cab corners and bed that is typical.

I took out the plastic bed liner and fifth wheel. Now I need to cover the hole in the middle of the bed.

It had a snow plow on it at some point. The bracket is still mounted to the frame.

The rear tank pump is either bad or the gas in that tank is old. I need to figure that out.

Here's my current To-Do list:

Windshield wipers
Temperature gauge
Oil pressure gauge
Speedometer
Exhaust leak
Oil change
Tranny service
Brake check
Tires
Receiver hitch
Trailer brake wiring
Cover hole in the bed
Deep cleaning
Ten or more other things that will come up along the way...

I really like having a truck again! Driving a 3/4 ton 4X4 is quite a change from my '72 Dodge Dart and '05 Dodge SRT-4!

Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that I got it stuck that first day! It was raining and I slid sideways down the hill behind my garage. The new tires will have a more aggressive tread pattern!

Stuck PICs... :)

I need to get used to this new forum. I keep forgetting to add the pics before I hit submit...

Here are the pics of it getting stuck the first day I got it. I had to make sure the 4X4 worked! :)

x2 ...I had a worn out -driven- gear in my '90 F250 parts truck too.

It was still working but it was "bouncy" and that drove the speed control
crazy (in the Bronco I put it in). LOL :)

BTW, DuPont's Multi-Use (in the blue squeeze bottle) works great on
speedometer cables and motorcycle cables. (dumb name but good stuff)

It's super-thin with naphtha or something so cleans it out at the same
time. ...make it run out the other end of the Bowden cable hosing. xD

=============================

The Bronco had (1)24,883.2 miles on it and I turned it to all zeros. xD
Wrote "124,883.2" on the speedometer housing and the date.

That's a real common thing to do to old air cooled VW's, it's expected.
When the transaxle goes bad on a Bug "it's said to be" about 350k miles.

Seen 'em have a sh;)t-conniption-fit over that business on FTE! LOL :)
What a bunch of sissies.
