Dana 44 U Joints?

While replacing some suspension components I noticed my Front Driver's U joint on the Dana 44 axle shaft is in bad shape. Its wiggling around a lot and looks generally busted.

What do I need to know about axle shaft U joints? I read Spicers are nice and lean towards non-lubed versions (stronger? easier?), but I don't know what size or kind or where to get. I'm flexible as to brand but don't want to spend a whole lot of money.

One has to be careful when buying U-Joints for these trucks...as there are So many applications.

You will need to post the BOM number of the front axle and the build date of the truck.

It's a 1979 F-150 4x4, I'll try and pull the BOM number this afternoon.

From what I'm reading models from this year used Dana Spicer 5-297X U Joints.

Also I read that some time ago Spicer went to a new design (supposedly stronger), the 5-760X.

Am I way off base here?

I personally am not a big fan of napa u-joints. I've used them on my superduty and was not impressed. They didn't last long enough for the price. That's just my opinion.
