Cruise Control?????

Alright boys and girls...the honey hole I picked last week was a great success. I've been wanting to get cruise control for my rigs for a while. That said, I know exactly bumpkiss about the system...never even seen one in person, don't have a clue what parts are even involved, or how it's mounted. I know you need the speed control steering wheel, there's something that hooks up to the carb/throttle linkage and a speedo cable. Is cruise control specific to any of the dentside years??? What's the difference between dealer and factory cruise control.

I picked up a couple parts...2 speedo cables and the thing in the following pic for $20...good deal or bad deal???

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. How many more pieces do I need???

Ben, most of the pieces are posted in the '78 manual section. Do you have the piece that fits in between the two sections of speedo cable? If I remember right, you also need a black box that sits behind the dash board?

Thanks Doug...I'll give the manual a look. Do you know if the pieces are swappable year to year??? Can the pieces work with an aftermarket carb???

78 was the first year for cruise so yes 78-79 will be the same. With the right adaptor it will.

You need the speed sensor (piece between the 2 speedo cables) upper and lower speedo cables, looks like you have the servo (piece with the chain), hard to tell but did you get the mounting bracket for the servo? And as stated you need the black box (speed control amplifier) behind the dash, the ground brush that mounts below the steering wheel, I think the stoplight switch is different with cruise and you will need the stoplight switch harness and probably some other wiring, not sure if all harness' have the complete wiring hook up.

Not intentionally. I ended up losing about 4 pages on each end that tore off. I was able to find a well-used copy that folded flat for most of the scans.

The 1976 sales brochure shows a picture of a cruise module located in the steering wheel. I don't know about anything before that.

I'm thinking 76 for on the wheel...I think Carpenter has repro's of that. Not sure about the dealer installed ones though.

80-up steering wheel, no resume on pre 79's. Wonder what else he has mixed up in there.
