cheap junkyard power

hello to all my ford peoples. i got a 94 mark3 flareside ford with the 302 efi. i have exspensive taste on what i want to do to it in the future but i have so many other projects going on right now cant put them in my truck right now. it is my daily driver and runs and drives great. i was wanting to see if ther were any upgrades that i can do to it that wouldnt be a major job or lots of money at the moment. it is all stock except for flowmasters. im looking for more low and mid power not realy concerned with top power as the fastest i go with it and its only when im in a hurry is between 100 to 110 im guessing but it is sluggish on lower and mid and was wantinf to use junkyard part if possible as i can get them cheap for now. i have a explorer upper and lower intake (not installed) didnt know if it would fit or real6y give me much of what im lookinfg for. was told a mustang gt comp would hook up and give me more horses. any opinions or suggestions would greatly help thanksmilieFordlogo

Holy hell, 'the fastest I go is maybe 100-110'...that seems to be scooting pretty good to me...do live on the Autobahn or something? Beyond that, nothing constructive to add, except cheap, power and junkyard usually don't go together. Welcome to the site and slow down, if not for yourself, others around you.

Wow seriously you should consider slowing down. That is crazy to be driving around like that.

try the six litre tune up idea it gave me a cple more horses not a lot but itd be a start for you why would you wanna go that fast anyways....

lol it is mph but i dont always drive like that its realy only when im late to work or going to my monthly military training. i dont like to drive it that hard or fast but it does handle the speed fine. but id trade that for more low and mid range power anydayday. i have my bike for speed. but thanks everyone for the help and suggestions

this isnt really recommended but you can try to soak an air filter in race fuel or methol alcohol if you got either available and try that, i wouldnt try it but my buddy did it with his truck said it got a bit more horse out of it

Thats what i did when i had the 302 still in my truck, and before i ditched the airbox, did it with methenol and it seemed to do a bit

dont ditch the air box, its not hurting anything.

mustang 5.0 (HO) cam, mustang 5.0 plastic fan, bump the timing and 6 litre tune up, 1.7 rockers, bypass the coolant line going into the throttle body...

aside that, long tube headers, wrap the air box with HVAC duct insulation, umm and SLOW THE HELL DOWN! these trucks werent meant to go that fast (how do u know ur going that fast anyway? speedo only reads 85 mph).

he knows he is going that fast because he has either been clocked at that speed or is talking out his arse...

And yes ditch the airbox for a better setup, the stock boxes are incredibly constricting, even a k&n "filtercharger" setup gains a little right foot kick over stock. intake is like exhaust, you can do all the mods you want to a motor but if it cant breathe in and out its just so much wasted fuel

Changing anything on the intake side of a truck 5.0 is a complete waste of time and money.. it's not at all restrictive until the motor gets major upgrades.

The single best upgrade for a 5.0 truck is more gearing, you can find out what yours has by looking up the axle code found on the drivers door pillar. Go to at least 3.73 gears with stock tires and step up to the next ratio for every 2" increase over stock... 4.10's for 31's, 4.56's for 33", etc.

taller gears will give him more low end responce and make him happy, as well as run him out of RPMs faster to keep everyone else on the road happy (and alive i might add)

It'd be easier to just buy my truck...all this talk of your tyruck...where are the pics? An easy, inexpensive mod would be underdrive pulleys as well... the explorer intake will work...you just need to flip the upper around 180 so the intake faces the driverside( beats relocating a bunch of stuff) and AFAIK......the explorer throttle cable will work in your truck...I've got the iontake myself but haven't swapped it......and don't intend to now that I'm selling it.( cheap too) Anyways, welcome to the site! Get some pics up of your truck and join your state/regional chapter and definitely bump the timing, get upgraded plugs/wires and ask plenty of questions......oh, and post the axle code as wqell so we can tell you what gears you have...FYI if yours is H9...that's 3.31 open(one wheel wonder)
