Lol...yea,thats a good friend of mines.Believe it or not,he use to do paint &
body work,an knows alot about it.He came ove several times to show me how
to operate the gun,an do several light coats,an wait for a few minutes
in between until the paint stiffens so I dont get runs...

He had a stroke about 15 years ago though.

I got the bottom painted this mornin,I brushed this black on.Now Im painting
the front vallance,going to air brush it sense its small.

Thnx.I got 2000 grit to start the wet sand process,but Im trying to get
all the peices done first.I got to try to figure out how to get the dent
out of the tailgate.The previous owner had hit a tongue of a trailer,
an put a deep dent in it at the bottom.I will take pics of the dent.

Yea I can do that.There is some dull spots.I was going to lightly sand those
areas an give it another shot of paint before I wet sand,also do some other
touch ups.
I will get up some pics shortly of those spots.The paint is a single stage.
I i have more of the dully spots on the passenger side which the damn tree
had distorted my vision of what was happening,also,it seems like the direct
sunlight an heat made the paint come out shinier an smoother.infact,I
was actually thinking on repainting the whole truck next year while it was
all together at a better location.The paint is not that exspensive...

On my paint,I do have some orange peel effect.I think alot had to
do with lack of air,I did run low on air afew times.I should have gotten
the compressor from work.Or bought a low pressure spray gun set up.
I consider myself a good painter as Im not a greenhorn to spray painting.
One of my problems is that Im in a big hurry because my neighbor was
already complaining,so I didnt take the time into how I was spraing...
So I figured that once I get everything back together,I will lightly sand it,
an work out any body flaws,recoat it the truck again later.
But heres some pics.
The truck is dirty,Ive been using it for work,an where Im at,is nothing but
a dust bowl,an dirt roads.The oics are hard to take.

Heres the gate.The dent is at the lower part,So Im thinking that
I will have to use a dent puller,as there is no way to get in to pound
it out.
I was thinking on drilling acouple of 1/2 inch holes on the back side,
enough to stick a bar in an pound it out,an then weld the holes back up.

The previous owner had already tried a patch job,but I think he hit the
tongue of the trailer a second time...

What I would do in your situation, go over the truck with 1000gr and remove as much of the orange peel as you can. Then clear coat the truck with a couple good coats. Then proceed with the wet sanding and polishing.

As to the tailgate, you are seeing the wrong way to do things firsthand...

That was my first thought,just hit it with clearcoat.The bed came out better than the cab,theres not harly any orange peel on the bed.The passenger
door,which is the first pic,is the worst,an not too much on he fenders.

As far as the tailgate,Im really not sure how to go about it,but its going
to get done oneway or another.It appears that the other person had
already tried a dent puller,its got holes in it.

I am open for sugestions on how to pull that out.I for one dont like using
body filler,an if I do,I try to use very little.I just dont have time to do
it the proper way at this time.

There's nothing wrong with using filler, so long as you use it correctly.

Just a thought, have you contemplated replacing the tailgate? Might be more cost effective.

Lol...no I havent.This one works quite well,opens,latches good.Just has
that nasty deep dent in it.But can look around fo another...

My u-joints should be in today.Going to try an get those on today or
tomorow.
I knew they had to be replaced by the sound of that nasty clank sound
going from park to reverse,an the vibration going down the road.

When I had the bed off an the rearend on jack stands,I rocked the
wheel hub back an fourth an seen which one was bad,it was the
front one.An it was real bad.Going to replace both front an rear with
grease cert ones.
I should have replaced them when the bed was off,But at the time,I
simply could not afford the u-joints at the time,an the bed had to go on
the truck for work...

I cleaned up an painted my bumper,but going to have to redo it.
I have to put a torch to it to bend it back .
The paint is just a rattle can,so its no biggy.

I want to pull the engine to replace some gaskets & freeze plugs.
Ive actually located an engine hoist that I can borrow to do so.
My b-law has one,an a friend has one.
Whats a better brand gasket set up?I will be replacing the intake,
oil pan gasket,would like a good quality brand gasket...
