Carb adjustments

I bought a 1978 F150 with a 351M in it. After replacing some parts my son and I finally got it running. It did not want to stay running until it warmed up but then idled fine until I put it in gear then it would cut off. I had the carberator rebuilt this week. The truck starts fine and runs for three to five seconds and then cuts off. Can anyone tell me how to do all of the adjustments to get it to stay running until its warmed up and then to keep it running when I put it in gear? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds a bit more like could be choke issues. When warm the choke plate should be fully open, but when cold it will be mostly closed at first.
There is an idle speed screw on the side where the linkage is. You can turn that up a little if the idle speed is too low. If it is a fuel issue, then the screws at the bottom of the carb on the front are the adjustment. Commonly to find a setting you turn them in all the way then turn them out about 2 turns, then fine tune from there.

There is also an adjustment on the choke pulldown. My 400 would die shortly after starting, but ran fine after warming up. Adjusting the choke pulldown allows the choke to stay open longer until the engine warms up.

Check the choke operation after starting. If the choke closes too soon, then adjustment is necessary.
