Burning Smell

The local parts store also has Haynes and Chilton books.

Anyway, like I posted earlier, jack up the rear of your Bronco, since it's centered, I usually go with a floor jack under the pumpkin and a jack stand about half way out the axle, so have room to work with the brakes. So pull the tire off. Then look on the back side of the drum...there should be about a 1" long slot centered on the bottom half of the rear of the drum. This slot will be just big enough for a flat blade screw driver or the special tool (looks kinda like a mini crow bar). On the other side of that slot will be a star wheel...you want to rotate that (can't remember up or down) so the shoes will release a little bit. You need the shoes to relase because, like it or not, grooves form on the drum or pad and they inter-lock. So once you back the shoe off enough, you should be able to just slide the hub off.

I don't have a floor jack nor a jackstand.

I don't have a harbor freight very close to me, now that I think of it Sam's club had a floor jack for a decent price. Ever heard of Red Max?

Do you have a Lowes Home improvement store near by? You can get a 3 ton floorjack with 2 jackstands for a little over $100 Kobalt Brand. It will be with the truck tool boxes.

Well just about anywhere that has tools, will have a floor jack and jack stands. Absolutely essential pieces if you ever plan on working on your own rig. Shoot, your local parts store should have them too. I think last time I was at O'Reilly's, they had a 2.5 ton jack for 39.99 and 3 ton jack stands shouldn't run for more than $20.

Yeah, I think I'll have to get a jack.

The question is can I access it without taking off the wheel.

Yes you can..I'm pretty sure that there is an adjustment sleeve on the cable above where the two meet...but it would be wise to pull the wheel to check it anyway.

I was planning on pull that cable via the cable then driving it for a few miles.

If it is binding and it does loosen off, it would still be a good idea to check it and see if you can lube it.

Keep them jack stands away from me! :(
Don't get close to me with 'em and no one will get hurt. ;)
They are bad if you work on dirt like I do.

I use cement blocks and 2x4s and 2x6s and 4x4s and 4x6s and 4x8s.
I use bottle jacks instead of floor jacks too.
YMMV

Those big sheets of corrugated cardboard from Costco kick butt! :)

They can be used for ground cover, map folders and for patterning
shotguns, twice. ;) Yep, shoot it from either side and check out the
pattern by looking at the bumps instead of the holes. Paper is a
pain, it needs a frame and out in the field with the wind... forget it.
